Remote work? Why not!

Nowadays companies are trying to bring down all the costs and remote work is one of the ways to achieve this goal.

People are still afraid and don’t really know what to think.

Our consulting division notes an increased interest of Directors and CEOs in remote work - this trend is likely to develop over the next few years.

Let’s have a closer look at this subject, since many entrepreneurs are no longer afraid to offer remote posts.

Some pros for the beginning:

Remote employees help to reduce costs very considerably - office rent, insurance, electricity etc. etc.

In many industries it is enough to have an employee available over the Internet - you can create VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) and work as if it was a LAN (Local Area Network). The technology lets us work on distance and interconnect all the computers into a company network. That’s why they are likely to look for you ;-)

Still, the Internet is not enough - a telephone line is necessary. Here is our advice - have another line installed so that you can turn the phone off after the “working hours”.

This solution also facilitates the finances - your employer will be billed for all the business phone calls you make.

Working hours. It all depends on the industry, in some cases you work in the office hours, but some “creative” industries won’t impose any limits.

From our experience, graphics specialists, designers, copywriters etc. usually work in the evenings - it greatly facilitates their concentration. If your future position doesn’t require direct contact with customers and the rest of the team, just ask if it is possible not to have fixed hours. Investigations have proven that an employee working when it suits him best increases his productivity by about 25% and is in the same time less tired and frustrated.

Remote work enables you to find employers all over the world.

In case of our company, the office is really small, since we have our employees all over the world - most of them started working for ITcameleon as a part-time job, a vast majority decided to quit their previous posts.

Still, there are some cons.

You need to have good motivation! If you are the kind of person that is unable to force her or himself to work, then remote work is not for you! In this case your productivity is very likely to be close to zero and you can expect being fired pretty soon. For those of you the Boss in the room next door is the best solution. ;-)

Remote work is a subject you need to discuss within your family - sometimes people tend to work in the evenings when their relatives come back from their companies - this can sometimes create conflicts.

Then don’t be afraid of remote work - the times when you needed to get to the office by 9am seem to be a remote past.
